Our Cornish Summer

When I started my business many moons ago, I had a little dream.

I wanted a summer by the sea. Long lazy days with the children in our happy place.

This summer we were able to do it. My business is in a good place and was left in safe hands with my mum to pack orders. My husband now has his own business and this was the ultimate reason we could head to Cornwall for the summer. God bless technology where you can work from anywhere.

The children are good little travellers having been to Sri Lanka, Mauritius and Dubai. But they love Cornwall. We all do, we all seem to be the most chilled and happy there. It took us almost a long haul flight to get there. Then you arrive to this view:

Do you know those summers we had as kids? No devices, playing with friends and making games up from your imagination. That was this summer. Everything is so easy there, no wonder it is our happy place. Cornish beaches are magic. Caves, dunes and rockpools – a kids paradise. They don’t see the work that goes into it. And quite rightly so. They skip on ahead while we are loaded up like that eighties game Buckaroo carrying everything for a day at the beach. And the car parks are always miles away….

I could spend ages trying to find the words to describe the beauty of Cornwall but I will let the pictures do the talking.

And not forgetting the water fun…

Watergate Bay 1

After two weeks exploring Hayle and the very far west, we moved up to Crantock to get our fill of watersports. We love that beach, it has everything and the children can safely play with a dinghy. What summer memories are made of. We explored North Cornwall – Padstow, Port Isaac, Bedruthen Steps, Newquay and Watergate Bay. The latter where we made the best memories with a sunset bodyboarding session.

This summer was a dream come true but so much more than that. I can’t ever remember not working for that length of time apart from when I had the boy. Allowing my brain to be still for that length of time was easier than I thought. The sea does that to me. I have come back feeling so still. And focused. And itching to get back to work.

The boy didn’t want to come home. He was meant to be barefoot and live by the sea in his view. Louisa asked to not go on holiday for a month!

Cornwall, we salute you…
